Dwayne Douglas Johnson, popularly known as The Rock is an American actor, producer and partially retired wrestler was born on May 2nd 1972. While he became famous as a wrestler, the Rock has enjoyed unprecedented success in the movie industry in recent years.

Dwayne fully began his acting career in 2001 when he featured The Mummy Returns and in the Scorpion King in 2002. He starred in the action-comedy titled The Rundown in 2003 and in 2004 he starred as a lead actor again in an action packed movie, Walking Tall. He was the main villain in Doom (2006), and he once again hit the big screen in 2007 for his role in The Game Plan where he played the role of a cocky and famous American football player.  His hard work and talent did not go unnoticed as he received the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects in 2008 for the 80th Academy Awards in February. He was also nominated for The Favourite Movie Actor Award at the 2008 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards for his role in The Game Plan unfortunately, he lost to Johhny Depp who secured the award for his role in Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.

His role as Luke Hobbs, a determined and relenting special ops operative who was hell bent on stopping Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his gang in Fast and Furious 6 really did wonders for his acting career as the movie grossed $789 million globally and Dwayne topped the Forbes list for 2013 with his films have brought in $1.3 billion worldwide. Dwayne had become a force in the industry, a real household name when it came to big screen hits.

In 2014, the Rock hit the screen again in Hercules where he was the lead actor, and he also took up his role as Luke Hobbs in Furious 7 which was a follow up to Fast and Furious 6. In 2016, Dwayne Johnson linked up with Kevin Hart in Central Intelligence, an action-comedy film, and was he voiced the demigod Maui in the animated film Moana.  He again dressed up as Luke Hobbs in The Fate of the Furious, and the movie hit the screens in 2017.  The year 2017 was a good year for Dwayne as he played important roles in two blockbusters. He played the role of a lifeguard in Baywatch and he played the role of “Mitch” Buchannon and the smouldering and fearless Dr. Smolder Bravestone  in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Dwayne has continued to make headway in 2018 as he has starred in two of arguably the biggest movies so far Rampage and Skyscraper. In Rampage, he  played the role of Primatologist Davis Okoye who befriends and Albino Gorilla named George, a gorilla he had saved from poachers. The movie has so far grossed $99 million in the United States, not bad for a 2018 movie. He aslo starred in Skyscraper where he played the former FBI agent Will Sawyer who has to rescue his family who are trapped inside a towering Inferno.

There’s definitely more to come from the Rock as there are rumours that he could still feature in the next Fast and Furiuos franchise. The Rock will definitely go down in history books as a legend.
