Echo is a Marvel Comics character who appears in many storylines. You may know her as Kingpin’s pawn in the Daredevil comic series. She eventually becomes a member of the New Avengers. Maya is born deaf and belongs to the Cheyenne nation of Native Americans.
And Echo is Maya’s superhero identity who has legendary, photographic reflexes. Her powers allow her to mimic a movement perfectly after seeing it just once. As a child, Maya loved the arts. The comics contain a beautiful collage showing Echo dazzling on stage through dance, music, and sign language.
Additionally, Maya originated Ronin’s superhero alter ego before making her debut as Echo much later. Of course, this does not happen in the MCU. The Ronin title has been passed down from Clint (who Jeremy Renner portrayed in “Avengers Endgame”) to his successor, Kate Bishop.

Why is Echo Important?
Echo’s inclusion is a landmark moment for representation in the MCU. It started with stellar casting, with Alaqua Cox landing the role of Echo. She’s a Native American actress who is also deaf, just like her character. Cox brings an authentic perspective to the MCU, helping her stay true to the character in so many ways.
Echo’s debut provides a unique foil for other Marvel characters, as she has undeniable connections to several. In the comics, Kingpin sees her as a weapon of choice in the quest to kill Matt Murdock, AKA Daredevil.
But then sparks began to fly between the two, which nobody saw coming! Echo eventually defects from Kingpin’s side. Now that Echo’s made her MCU debut, is it wishful thinking to hope for a Daredevil reunion? We don’t know. But what we do know is this isn’t the last we’ll see of her.
