The Lawrence High Chesty Lions are members of the Kansas State High School Activities Association, and offer a variety of athletic teams. These teams have collectively won more than 100 state championships, which is one of the highest records in the country. Several of those championships are thanks to the football team, who’ve managed to walk away from 31 of their seasons with an undefeated record!
In 1960, the Chesty Lions took home a national victory, and have won five consecutive Kansas State High School Activities Association championships. Sports Illustrated recognized Lawrence High School as having the top athletics program in Kansas. It has also been featured on ESPN, as a candidate for Titletown, United States.
Pike High School
Pike High is a public school located on the Northside of Indianapolis, near the Castleton Mall area. They are widely regarded for being home to one of the best high school basketball teams in the state, and possibly the nation. In 2003, coach Larry Bullington led the boys’ basketball team to a 29-0 season finish and another state championship victory.
That year, they held the title of best in Indy. DeKalb remained hot on their tail, finishing their own season 26-2. Several NBA players and other notable sports alumni have graduated from Pike over the years. Courtney Lee, David, Jeff, and Marquis Teague, and R.J Hunter have all come through the midwestern school.
Washington High School
Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa was initially just called “the schoolhouse,” when it first opened its doors in 1857. 100 years later it was expanded and evolved into what it is known as today. The school’s sports teams, collectively known as “The Demons” are a force to be reckoned with in their area and have competed in several state championships over the years.
Aside from their impressive athletics programs, they’re also known for having a talented yearbook staff and even competitive physics teams. Well, that and one of their most notable alumni: Ashton Kutcher. Washington has also seen a few NFL players (and coaches) come through its halls, including Adrian Arrington and Dedric Ward.
St. Xavier High School
St. Xavier is a private, all-boys Catholic school in Louisville that’s been operating since 1864. They’ve received the Blue Ribbon of Excellence a record four times. Also, the school's participated in “Project X,” which is responsible for the donations of over $25 million to build additional athletics and academic facilities.
They are renowned for their athletics teams as much as they are for their academic status. In fact, they’re the only school in the state that’s won a state title in every single Kentucky High School Athletics Association (KHSAA) event they’ve attended. Across their 13 KHSAA-sponsored sports, they’ve brought home 172 state titles throughout the years.
Jesuit High School
Jesuit High School is a private Catholic school in Louisiana and home to the Blue Jays. The school was founded as The College of the Immaculate Conception in 1847, and since 1933, it has won a number of state championships in a variety of different sports, including basketball, football, baseball, soccer, and wrestling.
In the 2004-2005 school year, the Blue Jays went to the state championships with an undefeated season. They also managed to earn state championships in six sports that year. Their cross-country team became the first in the state to earn three state championships in a row in 2005. The soccer team won a record of 94 games.
