Hollywood legend Gene Hackman used to own a tiny island among Washington’s San Juan Islands. On it, he built the main house that includes 3-bedrooms with a 360-degree deck and two guest houses for his visitors.
In 2008 he decided to sell his place, only to purchase another island located in British Columbia, Canada.
David Copperfield
The superstar magician David Copperfield has also decided to invest in his own private island; in fact, he bought 11 islands in the Bahamas! As it turns out, his plan was to rent out his resort to other wealthy vacationers.
He spent $50 million on remodeling the islands to accommodate other famous people, like Johnny Depp, Oprah Winfrey, and John Travolta.
Celine Dion
Celine owned a private Floridian island, located on the Rivière des Mille Îles in Canada's Québec, where she built an incredible mansion in the style of a French Normand Chateau. She moved there with her family in 2001 after a three-year remodeling project.
In 2013, she put the place up for sale for the price of $72.5 million.
David and Frederick Barclay
Back in 2003, Business magnates and brothers David and Frederick Barclay bought Brecqhou, an island just off the coast of the British Channel Islands. They built a medieval castle, and until recently, the island was entirely off-limits to civilians.
The landscaping took years of work to complete, and now select guests can visit the olive grove, fruit and vegetable garden, vineyard, and ponds.
Bear Grylls
The survival expert and adventurer established his own private location in 2001 on St. Tudwal West island off Wales' Llyn Peninsula. The island was transformed into his vacation home.
The 30-acre rock is famous for its wildlife but also has a signature lighthouse cottage and lush coastline.
