Paul Allen was one of the founders of Microsoft, along with Bill Gates. Back in 2013, he sold his 292-acre island off the coast of Seattle, but he was the one who first developed the property.
The island still lacks much infrastructure, but it does have an airstrip and a log cabin, which is still pretty close to paradise.
Pamela Anderson
In a bid to get Pamela back, her ex-husband, Tommy Lee, bought her a private island off the coast of Dubai. The tropical oasis didn't help mend their relationship, but Pam did keep the lavish gift.
The private island still remains undeveloped, and we could say the same about their relationship.
Beyoncé
For Queen Bey, it's only fitting that Jay-Z bought her a private island for her 29th birthday! The 12.5-acre property is nestled between the strip of Florida keys and cost a whopping $20 million!
In addition to this, Jay-Z also gifted his wife with another island in the Bahamas when their first daughter, Blue Ivy, was born.
John Lennon
It was both John Lennon and Yoko's dream to develop the Dorinish Island located off the coast of Ireland. However, after Lennon's passing, Yoko decided to sell the uninhabited island in John's honor and donate the money to an Irish orphanage.
By the time of his death, John had only visited the island once; he never found the time to settle there.
Richard Branson
Branson founded the Virgin Group in the 1970s, so it's only fitting that he should also own one of the Virgin Islands. The island was worth $6 million, but Branson originally offered $100k and was immediately rejected.
One year later and the island was still for sale, so Branson bought the island at his initial offer and received a 97% discount!
